In Minnehaha County
Hi, my name is Erin Asheim. I am the newest member of the Minnehaha County’s Director of Equalization office. You may know me from Butte County. I became certified as Assessor/Appraiser and worked in the Equalization office there for about 3 years. Originally a “west river” gal, I would only drive through the Sioux Falls area. Now that I live here I realize how much I missed by not stopping and taking a look around. My boys, Seth 8 and Matthew 6, are enjoying all the different places to go and do things, like the Zoo! I enjoy watching soccer and hockey games and rodeos. My pass times include playing piano, composing and transposing music; baking; cross stitch and crafts; playing cards and board games. I love spending time with my boys, family and friends. I would love to travel to Europe, Greece, Iceland, Scotland, Ireland, England and Australia. My favorite quote is: “If at first you don’t succeed, redefine success. You’ve already found one way that it won’t work.” You may be surprised to know that one day I hope to take a trip to Maine and go see a logging/lumber jack tournament; to go to an Opera in New York; and ride a trolley through San Francisco with a box of Rice-A-Roni in my bag. Can’t wait for our Annual Assessor’s School in September so I can see all of you again!
Hi SDAAO Members, A description of myself: I am Angie Boeckholt and I live in Hartford, SD. I am married with 2 children. Tayt is 12 and Tristen is 9 (10 soon). Our life is busy running with the kids to different sporting events. The boys are active in wrestling, basketball, football and baseball. When I have downtime, I like to make jewelry. Hope this is enough. Thanks, Angie
Gene Nelson grew up in our fine capital city of Pierre, SD (Go Governors!) spending his formative years there, so expectedly 'government' is in his blood, which makes working for Minnehaha County a natural step. He is a 1990 graduate of South Dakota State University (Go Jackrabbits!). His circuitous career route includes being a High School Ag Teacher, Fee Appraiser, Banking Financial Specialist, Mortgage Customer Service Rep, and now happily back into the appraisal field with the Dept of Equalization. His lovely wife, Robin, of 14 years works in HR with Sanford Health (Yes, the big party was really cool!). They have two children, Alexander (8) who likes baseball and Pokemon, and Katherine (5) who likes ponies and wants to be a veterinarian. A hunting dog and two young kitty's round out the American dream that Gene is living. Gene enjoys hunting and fishing. What better way is there to use SD ethanol than to chase around after SD animals? He also plays and coaches rugby in Sioux Falls. The high school rugby team he coaches has won the league championship 3 of the last 4 years. One final interesting fact about Gene is that he occasionally does some Civil War Cavalry/Infantry historical re-enactments. Once he spent 7 days on the set of the Hollywood film, "Ride With the Devil," a movie set in the early days of the Civil War, starring Toby McGuire and Jewel. It was a blast playing in the summer heat of the Kansas/Missouri foothills filming 10-12 hours each day. The daily paychecks listed him as 'mobile scenery.'
